Kuncie by Telkomsel — a UX Case Study

Kuncie by Telkomsel is an upskilling and networking app for Indonesia’s side hustlers and micro-business owners (source).

Kuncie connects aspiring entrepreneurs to local mentors with local know-how to help turn their business goals into a reality. The main idea behind Kuncie is being an online learning platform for entrepreneurs.

However, there are certain aspects that I think could be improved within Kuncie’s application.

My Proposal

Instead of rebuilding the app from scratch, I changed several pages and added some features such as:

Heuristic Evaluation

I started my research with Heuristic Evaluation. I picked which one of the pages’ elements in Kuncie violates the 10 Usability Heuristics in User Interface Design. In this section, we only focus to evaluate Kuncie’ interface.

The analysis of Kuncie’s heuristic violations can be seen below:

2— Define

The phases in ‘Define’ stage started by outlining what other competitors have that Kuncie might not have, and after that building the persona that personify Kuncie’s potential customers.

The personas are built based on interviews conducted with Kuncie users, along with their demographics, pains, and behaviours.

Information Architecture

Information Architecture (IA) is a crucial part of an application. With the user’s habit in mind, where they’d use their thumbs to use phones, I came up with the idea to revamp Kuncie’s main pages.

3 — Prototype

Now now, after I was done with the Ideation phase, I went to put the data gathered into some deliverables such as Lo-Fi and Hi-Fi prototype.

4 — Evaluation

System Usability Testing

The metric used in this study case is SUS (System Usability Testing) which gives a global view of subjective assessment of usability. There were 10 item questionnaires sent to users for the before-after design with five response options for respondents, from Strongly disagree to Strongly agree.

Based on research, a SUS score above a 68 would be considered above average and anything below 68 is below average (source) and the SUS score for the proposed idea is 70.
